LG Dishwasher error code AE
AE
Also shown as: E1
What it means
Leak detected inside the appliance - a leak has activated the float switch.
Likely causes
- A leak inside the dishwasher
- A door seal problem
- A leaking drain hose connection
- The unit is not level
Safety first: switch the appliance off and unplug it (or turn it off at the circuit breaker) before you check anything. If water is involved, close the water supply valve too. Never open panels or touch internal wiring. Anything that involves gas lines, refrigerant or sealed systems, or mains-voltage wiring is a job for a professional - not a home fix.
Safe first checks
- Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher and switch it off
- Check the door seal for damage or trapped food
- Check the drain hose connections for leaks
- Make sure the unit is level
Call a pro for this one
Before you can use the dishwasher again, the underlying cause of the leak has to be found and fixed. A leaking dishwasher can damage your floor - if you cannot see an obvious external cause, stop and call a technician.
Repair or replace?
Do not try to fix this one yourself. A service call typically costs $50-$150 for the visit and diagnosis (Angi puts an average service call at $50-$100; Sears lists a $90-$150 diagnostic fee). Ask for the full repair quote before you agree to anything. If the machine is old and the quote is a large part of the price of a new one, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing.
