LG Dishwasher error code IE
IE
What it means
Water inlet error - not enough water is reaching the tub. LG says the level of water in the unit did not get high enough after 10 minutes of filling.
Likely causes
- The water supply valve is turned off, or the water line is not connected
- The water supply hose is pressed, bent or kinked
- Water pressure is too low - LG says it must be between 20 and 120 PSI
- The drain hose outlet is installed lower than the base of the dishwasher, so water is siphoned out
- Parts of the dishwasher have frozen in cold weather
- The dishwasher is not level
Safe first checks
- Be certain the water supply valve is turned ON and the water line is not kinked or bent
- Check your home water pressure is between 20 and 120 PSI - if it is too low, contact a plumber
- Make sure the end of the drain hose is over 10 inches (almost 12 inches) above the bottom of the dishwasher, so water is not siphoned out
- Thaw any frozen parts by soaking a towel in warm water and wrapping it around the frozen area
- Check the dishwasher is level
When to call a pro
If you perform all of these checks and the IE error code persists, the unit will require a repair service.
Repair or replace?
Try the safe checks first - many codes clear with a clean filter, a straight hose or a balanced load, and those cost nothing. If the code comes back, a service call typically costs $50-$150 for the visit and diagnosis (Angi puts an average service call at $50-$100; Sears lists a $90-$150 diagnostic fee). Get the full repair quote before you decide. If the machine is old and the quote is a large part of the price of a new one, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing.
