LG Washer error code dL
dL
What it means
Door lock error - the door locking mechanism is not functioning properly.
Likely causes
- The door is closed but the washing machine will not operate
- Foreign objects may be obstructing the locking mechanism
- The washer is being used in a humid environment, such as a bathroom
Safety first: switch the appliance off and unplug it (or turn it off at the circuit breaker) before you check anything. If water is involved, close the water supply valve too. Never open panels or touch internal wiring. Anything that involves gas lines, refrigerant or sealed systems, or mains-voltage wiring is a job for a professional - not a home fix.
Safe first checks
- Check for and remove any foreign objects obstructing the locking mechanism, on the right side of the door
When to call a pro
If the locking mechanism is damaged, or the dL error continues, request service - a detailed inspection by a technician is required.
Repair or replace?
Try the safe checks first - many codes clear with a clean filter, a straight hose or a balanced load, and those cost nothing. If the code comes back, a service call typically costs $50-$150 for the visit and diagnosis (Angi puts an average service call at $50-$100; Sears lists a $90-$150 diagnostic fee). Get the full repair quote before you decide. If the machine is old and the quote is a large part of the price of a new one, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing.
