LG Washer error code tE
tE
What it means
Temperature sensor error - there is a problem with the temperature sensor inside the tub.
Likely causes
- A contact issue or a malfunctioning temperature sensor
- Excessively hot water was poured directly into the tub
- A disconnected connector or a break in the circuit
Safety first: switch the appliance off and unplug it (or turn it off at the circuit breaker) before you check anything. If water is involved, close the water supply valve too. Never open panels or touch internal wiring. Anything that involves gas lines, refrigerant or sealed systems, or mains-voltage wiring is a job for a professional - not a home fix.
Safe first checks
- If you poured hot water into the tub, disconnect the power cord and wait for the water to cool down before plugging the cord back in
Call a pro for this one
Sensor, connector and circuit faults are inside the machine, near mains wiring. If the code is not explained by hot water poured into the tub, it requires inspection by an LG technician.
Repair or replace?
Do not try to fix this one yourself. A service call typically costs $50-$150 for the visit and diagnosis (Angi puts an average service call at $50-$100; Sears lists a $90-$150 diagnostic fee). Ask for the full repair quote before you agree to anything. If the machine is old and the quote is a large part of the price of a new one, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing.
